Scope and Contents

The music ms - full score amd orchestral parts - for 'Concerto in C Major for Violincello and Full Orchestra, written in honour of Casals by his friend Donald Francis Tovey, Opus 40' is composed of those for: 1st violin, 2nd violin, viola, violincello, contrabasso, flute and piccolo, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, corno, trumpet, trom,bone, bass trombone, and timpani. A copy of the score is also included.

The violincello part is fingered and bowed by Pablo (Pau) Casals.

Scope and Contents Ms volume in modern binding. The spine title is: 'Genealogie of the Campbells - Ewen MacDougall', though the name is lacking in the ms itself. The text begins: 'This Clan were of old called Clan o Duibn (or rather Duibhn with bh according to the irish Silabication, bh and mk with them of the same value with the consonant v or vau in latine or English) I say of old so called from the famous Knights and Champions the o Duibhns...'. George Baillie Collection of Music Manuscripts

Scope and Contents

This collection contains music manuscripts dating mainly from the 18th and 19th centuries, which belonged to George Baillie. It mostly consists of arias and cantatas by composers such as Giovanni Bononcini, Alessandro Scarlatti, Giovanni Pergolese, George Handel, and many more. Most of the manuscripts are in Italian.


A few later manuscripts from the 20th century have obviously been subsequently added to the collection, although there is no information on their provenance.

The glass slides measuring approximately 8.5 cms x 8.5 cms show classical scenes largely of 19th century Italy, a 'Grand tour of Italy' in effect - Rome and the Vatican, Venice, Vesuvius, Pompeii, Florence, Pisa, Naples, and the Italian Lakes. Some of the scenes are hand-coloured.

The manuscript volume is bound in a colour-illustrated soft card cover. There are drawings throughout the work. The pages are un-numbered, but there are 34pp ms text. Chapter 1 is entitled 'The Friar', Chapter 2 is 'The Palmer', Chapter 3 is 'The Handkerchief', Chapter 4 is 'The Pope', and Chapter 5 is 'The Prayer'.
