The diary contains some illustrations. Charles Ross was at the forefront of the Agricultural Revolution in South-West Scotland in the second half of the 18th century. Two manuscript volumes on Scottish law. The first one reads 'Treatise on Bills, [written] by John Mein Writer to the Signet'. The manuscript dates from c. 1740 and bears the ink ownership signature of Henry Home, later Lord Kames (1696-1782). The second manuscript just starts with the word 'Case' and describes a series of cases dating from 1760s-1810s.
