 Item
Identifier: LHB1/61A/94/1/70

Scope and Contents

Three drawings showing an operative approach to cicatricial obstruction at Foramen of Monro, a diagram of a brain section and a drawing showing the x-ray appearance of the condition. On reverse, text reads "DOTT & LEVIN: CHRONIC PROGRESSIVE HYDROCEPHALUS. CHRONIC PLASTIC EPENDYMITIS. Cicatrical Obstruction at Foramen of Monro. Secondary to meningococcal ependymitis." A description of each drawing, labelled 1 to 3, is then given; 1. Insert shows operative approach. The appearance of distended ventricle, cicatrised foramen of Monro, and cicatrised choroid plexus are depicted. Note the operative opening through the septum lucidum and the normal ventricle and choroid plexus beyond it. 2. Diagram in coronal section. Observe the operative opening in the septum lucidum, allowing the distended ventricle to drain into the normal one. This procedure effected a cure in two cases. 3. Reconstruction of x-ray appearance – ventriculograms. Note enormously distended left ventricle, and its tendency to herniate across beneath the arch of the flax.
