Biographical / Historical
The Infirmary’s rules and regulations were first published in 1730 in a pamphlet describing the establishment of the hospital. This and the other early publications of the history and statutes of the Infirmary were designed for publicity purposes, to encourage subscriptions. As well as regulations relating to the election of managers and the running of the hospital, these publications contain ‘job descriptions’ for members of staff. The Royal Charter for the Infirmary was issued in 1736. See also GD1/125.
