Staff Returns and Review Committee, 1948-53
Scope and Contents
In 1949 the South Eastern Regional Hospital Board sent a circular letter to the Secretaries of the various Boards of Management asking for information as to members and grades of all staff employed in their hospital. Proposals were invited regarding alterations to the existing establishment.
In 1952 the Department of Health for Scotland issued a circular on the need to minimise the cost of running hospitals by making all practical economies in staff numbers.
In 1953 the Royal Infirmary set up a Review Committee to analyse staff returns with a view to cost saving.
Each circular resulted in a detailed survey of staff numbers in the different departments of the Infirmary and associated hospitals.
