Biographical / Historical
ImpAcTAIDS was an Edinburgh based charity which began in 2001, initially called IMPAART, and obtained charitable status in 2002. Their mission statement describes their activity as 'working together to improve the chances of those in resource poor countries gaining access to anti-retroviral medication'. The charity ceased operation in 2016.
ImpAcTAIDS participated in a number of campaigns on issues relating to access to anti-retrovirals. Prominent examples represented in this collection include the charity's work with the African HIV Policy Network (AHPN) on the 'Destination Unknown' campaign, lobbying leaders to ensure any person living in Scotland receiving HIV treatment is not deported to a country where their access to that medication may be restricted. ImpAcTAIDS produced nine videos for this campaign recording the stories of people who came to live in Scotland whose access to HIV treatment would be otherwise restricted. This collection also contains records of the charity's participation in the campaign to ensure access to medication was not restricted by the Transatlantic Trade & Investment Partnership (TTIP).
ImpAcTAIDS also participated in a number of associated campaigns and lobbies, organised fundraising events, and produced workshops and talks for relevant conferences.
