Manuscript by John Forbes (c.1568-1634), minister of Alford
Scope and Contents
Manuscript copy of an earlier work by John Forbes, Minister of Alford, c.1568–1634. Created c. 1726.
"The Reformation of Religion in Scotland, Containing Beginning Progress [and] Establishing of the Truth, both in Doctrine [and] Discipline, writtin the same.
Written be that faithful Servant and Witnes of Christ. Mr John Fforbes. Ex authoris Autographo"
Contains several notes and inserts regarding provenance, including a contents list that is purportedly written by 'Lord Grange'[James Erskine, 1679 - 1754]. The majority of these provenance annotations are on the front two fly leaves. Annotations throughout the main body of the volume are in the same hand as the manuscript. It is unclear whether these are the scribe's own additions, or copied from notes within the original.
From the General Assembly Library.
