Scope and Contents
MS KIRK 1:
Manuscript volume written in secretary hand. Front board and end leaves bear inscriptions of various former owners, including:
'To the Rev. Dr. Thomson from a sincere friend'
'Andrew morrison, 1833'
Volume contains:
1. Five sermons on Job 19:25, preached by Rev. James Kirkton in the Tron Church, Edinburgh, in January - May 1695. 72 pages.
2. A short treatise "Practicall inderences drawn from the excellency of the Christian Religion and of all the principles doctrines and truths that sbelong to it". 26 pages.
3. Notes of two sermons on Psalm 45:2 and Matthew 26:40, preached by Rev. Niel McVicar at St Cuthbert's Church, Edinburgh, during August 1709. 36 pages.
MS KIRK 2:
Sermons by Rev. Jas. Kirktown and Rev. Jas. Webster, Edinburgh, 1697-1705. Containing a note from W. Fraser (former owner), stating that the first pages of the first and second sermon were removed and sent to friends as autographs in January 1845. To avoid loss of contents, Fraser copied the text and inserted it.
Front board shows a shorthand contents, written by Rev. Henry Erskine, Falkirk.
