Scope and Contents
Composite volume in one neat secretary hand, scribe unknown. Copying thought to have been commissioned by Isabell Cor, Lady Airdrie (fl. late 16th - early 17th Century).
Item 1: 'The ellevint cap to the hebrewis'.
Manuscript sermons on Hebrews 11 believed to be given by Robert Bruce in Edinburgh 1590-94. 169 numbered folios.
Item 2: A series of 16 poems.
Thought to have been authored by Elizabeth Melville, Lady Culross (c 1578-c 1640). Poems span 15 folios.
Titles include:
- 'Ane Anagram: SOB SILLE COR' [Isabell Cor]
- 'Give me thy hairt And see fyre no more...'
- 'O louse me from this lothsum lump of clay...'
- 'The christianis cogniseance...'
- 'The winter night'
- 'Ane exhortatioun for patience with ane prayer for comfort'
- 'Ane lamentatioun for sin with ane consolatioun to the afflicted saull [soul]'
- 'Ane complaint of ane wearied saull [soul] for sin and want of grace'
- 'Ane thankisgiving to god for his benefeitis'
- 'Ane admonitioun to rebellious sinneris'
- 'Ane lamentatioun for ane afflicted in conscience'
- 'O Lord my god quhat sall [shall] I say...'
