Content Description This important bound volume with ms transcript of Scottish ballads had been in the ownership of Mr. Hilary Corke, a Lecturer at Edinburgh University, 1951-1955. It is one of two ms volumes known as the Harris Repertoire. Corke had 're-discovered' it in 1955. The Laing Collection

After the death of David Laing, his private library was sold in an auction occupying thirty-one days. His collection of charters and other papers is of national importance and the most distinguished of its kind in any Scottish university. It is an essential source for the 18th century, and a much used one for all periods of Scottish history from the earliest times. The Laing Collection falls into five sections, designated as La.I., La.II., La.III., La.IV., and La.V.

The Royall Cedar, by Frederic van Bossen

Unbound copy of a manuscript, Edinburgh 1688, with original stitching. Commences with an elaborate title page with allegorical figures, with shield and decorated borders. There follows a list of authorities used in the writing of the work and a dedication. Van Bossen states that he has made use of an ancient manuscript by John Tulloch, Bishop of Orkney. The work forms a substantial history of Scottish nobility and follows the structure of that laid out in other copies.

The medals are the Edinburgh University class medals: geology and mineralogy, 1899-1900; practical geology and mineralogy, 1900-1901; practical botany, 1901 (Edinburgh School of Medicine); practical zoology, 1901-1902; and petrology, 1902.
