The collection is composed of: a folder containing a typescript copy of a diary of a journey from Italy to the Holy Land, covering the period 18 December 1850 to 6 September 1852; two microfilms of diaries covering the period 1849 to 1850; and five boxes of photographs showing scenes of Ireland, Paris, Switzerland, Rome, Pompei, Athens, Istanbul, Jerusalem, Cairo, Thebes, Abu Simbel, Nubia, Petra, and more.

The album had been in the possession of the Earl of Cawdor (John Frederick). It is dated 1859. The album is composed of photographic art reproduced on salted paper. Eight images are maritime in nature - vessels at sea - with waves and sails coloured in bluish / greyish tint, and are of drawings done by Willem Van de Velde the Younger (1633-1707).

Photographs of War-Devastated Caen
The collection of photographs and postcards shows the war devastation of Caen, June-July, 1944. The devastation is shown from different elevations, and feature not only the most prominent buildings but also the extent of the damage beyond the central area of the city. Some of the pictures show the streets and buildings of Caen before the bombings.
