This collection is composed of effects that belonged to Henry Craven St John, a young Lieutenant (later Commander, then Admiral) who brilliantly fought against pirates in the Chinese Seas in the 1860s. Two volumes comprising 52 leaves with 100 water-colour illustrations
(three double-pages) with captions in Japanese. One page of Japanese text at the end of volume two. The illustrations are finely drawn and painted in delicate colours, all well preserved, and depict 100 flower arrangements of Ikenobo rikka style.
