Extract of a diary written by Alexander Carmichael including part of a journey from Uibhist/Uist towards Edinburgh. In it, Carmichael is pining for his pregnant wife Mary, who is in Edinburgh and is anxious about her health. It is clear that there has been a lack of correspondence between them causing each of them distress 'No letter no watch. God grant that she is well. Oh Mary Mary if you knew my suffer[in]g you would not thus treat me...God grant y[ou]r safe arriv[al] home my darling wife...

Song entitled 'Laoidh Na h Inghinne' collected from Alasdair Donullach [Alexander MacDonald], Port-righ [Port Rìgh/Portree, An t-Eilean Sgitheanach/Isle of Skye] beginning 'La dhomh romh 'm Fheinn a muigh, 'S mi na m' shuidhe air Tulach-coire-ciar'. The song is composed of twenty-four lines. The text has been written across transversely with a note from the Inverness Courier of 19 March 1866 stating that four of the oldest inhabitants of Portree had passed away in the course of a month, to...

Story about seals killed in An t-Eilean Sgitheanach/Isle of Skye which reads 'Seal killed at Portree [Port Rìgh] blue like Hooded seal. Anoth[er] Skye man had a spliucan + he saw the seal had been Killed on an Afri[can] river.' Text has been scored through in pencil as if transcribed elsewhere.
