The story tells how Odar was a Viking warrior who raided the west coast after the Norsemen had been expelled by MacDonald, Lord of the Isles. MacDonald put up a reward for whoever brought him Odar's head, dead or alive. Mac Uistean [Mac Uisdean] captured Odar at Caisteal Odar and decapitated him and took MacDonald...

Story entitled 'Aireamh Muintir Dhubhain' and accompanying story collected from Catrina nic Lachlain ruai [Catherine MacQuien] Clachan a Ghloip [Clachan na Lùib, Uibhist a Tuath/North Uist]. The note states that John Smith in Baghasdal [Boisdale, Uibhist a Deas/South Uist] has the story and that Patruig Smith [Peter or Patrick Smith] also has the story 'Sgeul Choise Cèin'. Text has been scored through perhaps indicating it has been transcribed elsewhere.

The note states that the informant learned the song from her uncle Ruarai ruadh mac Cuithein [Roderick MacQuien], catechist, Scolpaig [Uibhist a Tuath/North Uist] who had eighteen books on Fenian tales, which were burnt by his son 'who turned a F.C.'
