Scope and Contents Field notebook belonging to Alexander Carmichael. The marjority of the notebook relates to material collected in Earra Ghàidheal/Argyllshire but there are a number of loose leaves at the end which contain an account of a journey from Uibhist/Uist through An t-Eilean Sgitheanach/Isle of Skye, during which time his wife, Mary is in Edinburgh and is pregnant. Note about archaeological find around Lonain [Lonan, Earra Ghàidheal/Argyllshire], including a 'ciste chloiche' which was opened by Dr Smith and Duncan Clerk but it contained nothing while a crogan or pitcher was found in a cairn nearby. It also notes that menhirs were taken to put on the road and that there is a fairy hill opposite Duntanachan.

Story about a herd who was sent away by 'Baile na Cille' [baillie] from Cill to Duntannachain [Duntanachan, Earra Ghàidheal/Argyllshire], his possessions being put into creels and not carts. The baillie's man told him that the herd had said that no matter what he would choose to return, 'Gad chi mi Mhaol o'ar...Bi mo raghin bhi tilleadh', and on hearing this the baillie told his man to go and bring the herd home.
