Custom regarding the use of sheep bones stating that they must not be burnt on the fire and that 'Old men in Uist [Uibhist] highly disapprove of this'. Seileann (sheep lice) must not be put in the fire either or 'sealbh chaorach [flock of sheep] w[ou]ld not attend you'.

Diagrams of St Moluag's Catherdral [Lios Mòr/Lismore, Earra Ghàidheal/Argyllshire] and accompanying notes which tell how there were human remains dug up from the foundations of the cathedral 'when the dyke was built round the bur[in]g pl[ace] a few y[ea]rs ago.' The diagrams show measurements of walls, niches, windows and doors with some annotations.

Scope and Contents Ewart writes that the examination of the skulls from the Roman fort near Melrose has proved that horses representing four distinct varieties or species were living under domestication during the first century. The Zoology Board of the Royal Society Government Grant Committee have started an investigation to ascertain the origins of various species of horse by examining bones and cross-breeding. Ewart requests Russell's financial help with meeting the costs of this investigation....
