Calton Hill Road. Looking south towards Inglis Corner. The houses in the centre still exist, those on the left have been demolished. Rock House (still in existence 1989, converted into flats) should be behind the house on the left. Handwritten title by Alasdair Geddes.

Calton Hill Road. Possibly the back of some of the buildings shown in Coll-1167/B/27/16/7, but identification is difficult. This whole area has been demolished, except for Rock House. Handwritten title on the original envelope containing the corresponding glass plate negatives was written by R. Dykes.

Calton Jail with the Governor's House on the right. The clock of the North British Hotel is in the distance beyond the (former) General Post Office buiding. Note the old fashioned railway signalss on the left, on the still used but now modernised railway line running east, and ultimately south, from Waverley Station. A print from this glass plate negative was included in the "New Town of Edinburgh" section of Geddes' replacement "Cities and Town Planning Exibition". See Coll-1167/B/13.
