Scope and Contents This collection is composed of effects that belonged to Henry Craven St John, a young Lieutenant (later Commander, then Admiral) who brilliantly fought against pirates in the Chinese Seas in the 1860s. Scope and Contents The collection consists of black and white and coloured slides and lantern slides relating to China, Taiwan, Malaya, the Philippines and Japan and to the China Inland Mission. The slides show a wide variety of town and country scenes, and images of people and places, festivals and occupations, religion, and church and mission work. Content Description This is a Taoist Dragon Scroll of the Yao People (or the Iu Mien People, a sub-set of the Yao people) of Southern China, Thailand, Laos and North Vietnam. The Scroll Painting serves as a Bridge that connects this world with the supernatural worlds.
