US military 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' fails, 29 Jan 1999
The US military's "Don't ask don't tell" policy has been seen to fail and it has precipitated a 90% increase in the number of gay men and lesbians women being disharged form the armed forces. It has also been severely criticised for its lack of fairness and cost of over $17 million to the Unite States Government.

World's first gay group relaunched in Germany (Issue 566) (Pink Paper), 15 Jan 1999
Formed in 1897 by Dr Magnus Hirschfeld, the scientific humanitarian committee has been relaunched in Germany, havinge been disbanded by the Nazi government in 1933 for its gay rights work. Also America's first gay rights group the Society for Human Rights, after 75 years, relocating to new base in Chicago.
