Hagenbeck confirms that the Jardin d'Acclimatation in Paris no longer has the hybrid of the 'Equus hemyonus' and pony in its possession, and that the hybrid zebras and donkeys have been sold to William Jamrach. He enquires after more complete physical details of Ewart's hybrids.

Hagenbeck announces that he hopes to soon be in Paris, where he will be able to find out all the details of the physical characteristics of all the different hybrids in the Jardin d'Acclimatation. He would also be interested in procuring the hybrids that Ewart had intended to sell to the Indian Government.

Hagenbeck requests that Ewart repay him some expenses incurred transporting two zebra hybrids to India. He also informs him that he is sending a wild ass from the Balkasch lake to the Duke of Bedford. He describes the animal, stating that to him it resembles a new species, and asks if Ewart would view it and offer his opinion.
