The text beneath the image notes that the above series depicted in 19 frames the 'phases of one complete stride of the horse "Edgington" which was owned by Senator Leland Stanford while trotting at a speed of a mile in 2 minutes and 16 seconds at Palo Alto, California in the Spring of 1879.'
