Story about the Battle of Sheriffmuir probably collected from Alexander MacKenzie, Uisgeabhagh/Uiskevagh, Beinn na Faoghla/Benbecula, telling how at the battle, horses came amongst the Gaels and scattered them. Fear Leitir-iù [a MacKenzie] and Iain MacConnich [John MacKenzie], the informant's maternal grandfather, were up against five troops and so Fear Leitir-iù told John to go back to back with him and in that way they managed to kill the five soldiers with their swords.

Scope and Contents Story entitled 'Gleann Li-un' [Gleann Lìomhann/Glen Lyon, Siorrachd Pheairt/Perthshire] collected from an unnamed informant about a battle that took place between the 'Robertson Campbells & MacGregor & the Clann Imhear' [MacIver], the MacIvers being killed. The MacGregors came down from Bunrainich [Raineach/Rannoch], battled at Lagan a chatha and stopped at Camus nan Cam [Camus nan Càrn] to wash. At a ford in the River Lyon 'the river ran red with blood' and it is said that the river...

Story entitled 'Sgrios nam Piocach' [The Destruction of the Picts] collected from Aonas Mac Aonais [Angus MacInnes], crofter, Smearclait [Smeircleit/Smerclete, Uibhist a Deas/South Uist] which tells how King Kenneth [Kenneth mac Alpin] waged war on the Picts and killed them all. Carmichael notes 'Chual Aonas Mac Aonais so bho aithait - nis na fhior shean dhuine.' [Angus heard this from his father who is now a very old man.]

Story entitled 'Sgrios Nam Piocach' collected from Aonas Mac Aonais [Angus MacInnes], crofter, Smearclait Uist D [Smeircleit/Smerclate, Uibhist a Deas/South Uist] collected on 13 January 1865, which tells how King Kenneth [Kenneth mac Alpin] waged war on the Picts and killed them all. The accompanying note states that Angus heard the story from his father, who was an old man full of old stories.

Scope and Contents Transcription notebook belonging to Alexander Carmichael. The majority of the volume has been used but intermittently there are groups of blank folios. Carmichael appears to have written in the book in the 1860s creating sections of different genres at different stages in the volume, with pages left blank in between to fill up appropriately. In about 1875 he has then used some of these blank pages to transcribe notes and stories but has not kept to the genres sections he initially created....
