The shelf marks correspond mainly with Henderson's catalogue (1695-1697). A note after S 18 reads: 'There are the number of books in this catalogue 4526 which is the true state of the Library at my father's [W. Henderson] entry, but none ar counted sett down by his hand'. 'Catalogus Librorum Bibliothecae Edinburgenae'. A press catalogue: A-T 'begun the twentie ane day of December 1674'. At the end is a note about missing books (same as previous) and another about books 'given in by Mr. John Dunlop's brother'. Both notes are by Robert Henderson.

'Catalogus Bibliothecae Publicae Jacobi Regis Edinburganae'. Press catalogue made by Robert Henderson, Librarian. The books are arranged according to subject. In front of the catalogue is a list of benefactors to the Library and Latin dedications to the Lord Provost & Town Council and to Principal Rule. At the end are lists of the contents of a chest 'at Ostium Bibliothecae Orientale posita', some anatomical specimens and 'icones virorum illustrium'.
