Lamont writes that she will forward a sample of the wool from the Blackface sheep belonging to her brother which was awarded the prize for 'best fleece manufacturing purposes' at the Dunoon Agricultural Society's show that year. She would be interested to hear what Ewart has to say about the wool.

Lort writes that the largest of the ewes is a Shropshire cross, the smaller ewe with close short wool was running with a pure Southdown, and the St Kilda ewe was put to a pedigree Welsh ram of Professor Winter's.

He asks Ewart to seek out the papers of a society formed more than a 100 years earlier in Edinburgh for the improvement of sheep and wool.
