Scope and Contents This notebook contains Charles Lyell’s notes from December 13, 1845 to December 24th, 1845 while traveling through Washington, D.C., Richmond, Virginia, Wilmington, North Carolina, and en route to Charleston, South Carolina. The index is located in the back of the notebook on pages 115 and seven unumbered pages. Notes are in pencil and ink and include field sketches. Scope and Contents Red leather Notebook starts at Penrith, as Lyell then travels south, via Appleby, Lancaster to Lichfield, to London then Folkestone and into France. He travels with Mary, Hughes, Beovill, and meets with many experts along the way. Most of the notebook is written by Buckley, who orders the narrative by date using the Itinerary – with sections added by Lyell in poor writing, and others – perhaps Mary, as well as local people noting down journey times. Scope and Contents

The Swiney Lectures were organised in connection with the British Museum (Natural History) and ran from 6-30 December 1907. They were held in the lecture theatre of the Victoria and Albert Museum. The syllabus is accompanied by a press cutting about the lectures and digests of two of Ewart's lectures (five and six in the series) as printed in The Veterinary Record on 11 and 18 January 1908.
