Also mentioned is the 'fine large garden [of] good soil but ill cultivated' which leads on to a description of the land quality on the island, the presence of lazybeds and the 'Beautiful grazing...espe[cially] at Aoi Paible and Rà good water' [Uidh, Paibeil and Raah].

Story collected from Roderick MacNeil, Miùghlaigh/Mingulay about Bliana nan Sasunach [Bliadhna nan Sasannach the year of the Englishmen] telling how Iain mac Fh[earchair] ic M[hurchaidh], was hanged without trial by Captain Scott and his men, about 600 of whom were on Beàrnaraigh/Berneray and Mingulay for a week.
