Scope Note: Subnormal intellectual functioning which originates during the developmental period. This has multiple potential etiologies, including genetic defects and perinatal insults. Intelligence quotient (IQ) scores are commonly used to determine whether an individual has an intellectual disability. IQ scores between 70 and 79 are in the borderline range. "Admitted to CR under certificate. Diagnosis: "Psychosis on a basis of mental defect". Mental age of 9 1/2. Father no fixed address, labourer. Mother deserted when patient was 6 years old. Maternal grandmother alcoholic, separated from husband and has an illegitimate child. Patient was boarded out by PAC. Worked as a domestic."
