Intelligence quotient (IQ) scores are commonly used to determine whether an individual has an intellectual disability. IQ scores between 70 and 79 are in the borderline range. "IQ 72 was very shy and backward. Had a bad scalding accident as a child which put him back, would not speak or come to school after it for a long time. Now working as a woodman, nice lad. Father a ploughman, not very bright. Mother 30-40, giggly. Fairly clean house, children were not well nourished looking. [Male informant] one sister is OK, but not quick witted."
