Scope Note: Subnormal intellectual functioning which originates during the developmental period. This has multiple potential etiologies, including genetic defects and perinatal insults. Intelligence quotient (IQ) scores are commonly used to determine whether an individual has an intellectual disability. IQ scores between 70 and 79 are in the borderline range. "Was dull at school, very handless, could not learn anything. Was at home for a time then a nursing auxiliary for a bit. Very happy go lucky about it - e.g was to give a baby 1/8 gr. of heroin, couldn't find the measure and thought two 1/4 would do instead. Has always been a great one for the boys - Poles, policemen, an middle-aged married alcoholic. Nice child, no guile in her, no idea of how to dress."
