"This man, an old soldier, is said to be peculiar. He is a good scholar, a beautiful writer, but you cannot make any sense out of him - just talks nonsense. He would not work before the war, but has been working about the aerodrome recently. Used to loaf about the stables, was a sort of groom but never had a real job. Well read. PAO says this man used to have very bad drinking bouts. Nurse says this man raves and acts the goat. Dr confirms chronic alcoholism, working ability impaired."

"This old lady is peculiar, a hermit, lives alone with a lodger as queer as herself. Very fond of a wee drop. Very bad with rheumatism and can hardly get about. No relations known. Dirty house, 2 rooms for 2, nobody else would live in it. PAO: pickled - will never die, alert mentally but very old. Widow's pension and supplement. Dr - senile, chronic tippler."

"His butler says he drinks two bottles of whisky and one of gin every day. Nasty sort of man, very moody and unreliable. He and his wife were bright young things in the twenties - nameless orgies on the sands etc. Wife is a very mean woman, sells vegetables. Unpopular and a madam."
