This is a membership card of the Edinburgh Subscription Library, printed on one side only, with member details completed in manuscript. These indicate that the card was first issued to the Rev. Dr. William Manuel on 30 October 1833. Later manuscript additions to the verso of the card indicate that it was transferred to Mrs Mackay, 13 Clifford St, Edinburgh, on 4 February 1841, and to Mr R. Mackay, 13 Archibald Place, Edinburgh, on 30 October 1850.
