Emigrants

Correspondence from John Ronaldson to family in Fife, Scotland, both during his journey to North America and from East Braintree in Massachusetts USA, and from Skagticoke (Schaghticoke). The material is in the form of typescript copies and photostat copies of manuscript letters.

The collection is composed of letters to Ivory Buchan (Margaret Ivory Ritchie Buchan) and includes: Edinburgh letters, 1931-1938, beginning on a regular basis in 1934, with comments on teacher training, and setting up a private school in Blackhall; South Africa letters, 1938-1951, going abroad for health reasons, early difficulties in South Africa, and about work in Benoni and Johannesburg.

Bound reports by John M. Hemphill II, researcher on the history of Virginia, on the Papers of Charles Steuart, Virginia merchant and British Customs official, dated between 1747 and 1797. Typescript containing four reports that Hemphill has made on the manuscripts he examined in 1954-55.
