Buried in a Snowdrift for a Month - a Herdwick Sheep, 1870s-1930s
Newspaper photograph from the 14 February 1917 edition of the Daily Mirror entitled, 'Buried in a Snowdrift for a Month' about a Herdwick sheep that was discovered by its owner's dog under a 10 ft. snowdrift on the Langdale Pikes, Westmorland. The image shows a young man holding the sheep on his lap with one arm around his dog on a hillside.

The four photographs show: a dog digging out the sheep; a farmer's wife digging out the sheep; the farmer's wife uncovering a Gritstone sheep and a farmer and his wife leading back the rescued sheep.
