This volume is a sonet sequence comprising of seventy-two sonnets in a loose narrative by the makar (royal bard), writer, courtier, and translator William Fowler. Although the sonnets are written in his hand, the title and his name were written in William Drummond of Hawthornden's hand. Fowler was Drummond's uncle.

This volume contains calendars and astronomical tables. It is written in fair script by more than one hand. There are many diagrams and one pen drawing (16th century). The whole is heavily rubricated.

This volume contains the poetic works of Alexander Montgomerie, Scottish Jacobean courtier and poet, he was one of the principal members of the Castalian Band. Montgomerieā€™s poetic output of over 100 pieces is mostly known from this volume, known as the Ker manuscript. Margaret Ker was the daughter of John Lord Herries of Newbattle Abbey, who was a neighbour of William Drummond of Hawthornden.

This thesis is a copy by Thomas Ross of the one he affixed to the gate of a college at Oxford. It was a libel against his own countrymen (Scots) living in England. He was executed in Edinburgh in 1618 for his troubles.
