Biography

William V. Stevens was born in India where his parents contributed to the work of the Salvation Army there. His early schooling was given at the Hebron School in Ootacamund, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka.

Later on, Stevens studied at Edinburgh University, graduating with degree of B.Com. in 1929. He was Captain of the University's Association Football XI (a soccer Blue), and he played for Queen's Park Football Club, Glasgow. He earned business experience in London with import and export merchants and bankers. Between 1939 and 1967 Stevens was Director and Secretary of Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce and Manufactures. He was also the University Rector's Assessor and served on the University Court for five years from 1952.

He was President of the University of Edinburgh Graduates' Association from 1983 to 1985. Previous to that, he had been Honorary Secretary from 1974, and Editor of the University of Edinburgh Journal from 1971/1972. In 1979 he held the dual offices of Honorary Secretary and Honorary Editor of the title.

William Victor Stevens was a J.P. and he was awarded the O.B.E. He died in 1987.
