Cure for the removal of an awn from a woman's ear in which a woman from Cnocantorrain [Cnoc an Torrain/Knockintorran, Uibhist a Tuath/North Uist]. An awn has become lodged in her ear at winnowing and her ear has become inflamed. All attempts to remove the awn have failed but on asking An Dotair Bàn [Dr Alexander MacLeod] for help, he makes her take snuff while he holds her nostrils and eventually the awn comes out landing 'some five feet away'.
