Biography
John Wolcot was an English satirist who wrote under the pseudonym of "Peter Pindar". He was born at Dodbrooke in Devon and educated at Aberdeen University. Having begun careers in both medicine and the church, in 1780 Wolcot went to London and began writing satires. His subjects included members of the Royal Academy, and frequently the King and Queen. He died at his home in Latham Place, London in 1819.
