Biography

Emily Charlotte Thomson was born in 1864. She went to High School in Arbroath, and then attended the School of Medicine for Women in Edinburgh, where she graduated M.B. C.M. in 1889. She also studied at Rouen and at Dublin, and gained the Licentiate of Midwifery of the Rotunda Hospital. In the 1890s she was appointed medical officer to Dundee Women's Hospital alongside Dr Alice Moorhead, and received a Cross from the Knights of St John for this work. She was the first woman doctor to practise in Dundee, where she practised from 1891 until her retirement in 1922. She died on the 21st of August 1955.
