Biography

Born in St Lucia, Charles was awarded a scholarship to study medicine at Edinburgh University, graduating in 1951. He returned to the university in 1957 to complete his FRCS. In 1959 he returned to St Lucia to work as a surgeon at the Victoria Hospital. He was one of the founders of the St Lucia Medical and Dental Association and was its first president. He worked again in the UK and also Canada. He retired in 1998. An EU funded hospital bearing his name was built in St Lucia.
