Biography

Seumas Mac a' Ghobhainn (1930-1987) was born in Edinburgh. An author and political campaigner, he was a lifelong activist for the Scottish Gaelic language, seeing it as the key to true independence. In accordance with his wishes his ashes were scattered at the site of the 1820 memorial in Sighthill Cemetery, Glasgow, by the 1820 Society. In 2000 a headstone to his memory was unveiled at the cemetery by Peter Berresford Ellis.
