Biography

Cecilia Wolseley Haig was born in Marylebone in 1856, the daughter of a barrister. She had two sisters: Florence Eliza Haig (1856-1952) and Evelyn Haig. All three sisters took part in the struggle for women's suffrage. Cecilia was a member of the Edinburgh Ladies Debating Society. She joined the Central National Society for Women's Suffrage in 1892 along with the Tax Resistance League. Her sisters formed the Edinburgh branch of the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU), which Cecilia joined.

Cecilia took part in the 'Black Friday' protests of November 1910 and suffered an assault. Sylvia Pankhurst claimed that Cecilia's death, one year later in 1911, was a result of her injuries from the 'Black Friday' protests.
