Biographical / Historical

Cecilia Wolseley Haig's sisters, Florence and Evelyn, founded the Edinburgh branch of the Women's Social and Political Union, led by Emmeline Pankhurst (WSPU). Cecilia Haig died in 1911 after injuries sustained in November 1910 when she took part in 'Black Friday' protests. This letter mentions Florence Haig's arrest in Holloway prison after the 'pantechnicon raid' of 1908, in which suffragettes attempted to enter the House of Commons in a 'Trojan Horse' plot and were subsequently arrested.
