Biography

Born in 1915, John Dickie Watt was the second of four children of Rev. Hugh Watt and his wife, Agnes Smith Taylor. Her father's appointment as Professor of Church History at New College, Edinburgh in 1919 brought the family to Edinburgh. He was educated at the University of Edinburgh, graduating MBChB circa 1940.

John pursued a career as a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at at Wanstead Hospital and then Oldchurch Hospital. He is credited as a pioneer in the use of ultrasound.

John married Isabella Pentland Russell in 1940 and they had two sons and one daughter. He died in 1991.
