Correspondence. From file (extract): "Dr Dorothy Smith, née White (1919-2017), was Irene's closest friend from Esdaile. She was bridesmaid at Irene's wedding to Leslie Cairns in December 1943. After a time in general practice in Kent she met Ronald Smith and went out to Tanganyika to marry him: he was in the Colonial Service in East Africa and before that in Malaya.
