Ridgeway states that he will leave room in his paper for Ewart's new-found reference to the habitat of Ward's zebra. He seeks Ewart's advice on various unidentified horse skulls in the museum in Cambridge. He states that, as Bateson considers it unlikely that any Mendelian study on horses or other large mammals will take place in Cambridge, this could strengthen Ewart's case with the Board of Agriculture on establishing a research station. Ridgeway reports that he has been in Ireland examining the other objects found along with the three horse skulls in the 'crannog discovery'. He writes that he and Coffey have dated them between the eighth and tenth centuries. He mentions a letter from Walter Harris concerning his enquiries about callosities on the legs of horses in Tangier.
