15th century Dutch manuscript of Petrus de Herenthal's Expositio super librum Psalmorum, (Exposition of the Psalms, sometimes called Collectarius super librum Psalmorum), a commentary on the Psalms, which he dedicated to John of Arkel (bishop of Utrecht 1342-1364, bishop of Liège 1364-1378).

Writing

The hand is good throughout, but the pages are much stained with moisture.

Illumination

There are red filigree initials, and at the beginnings of the Psalms large Gothic letters.

Custodial History

A Dutch manuscript. Only one mark of ownership is found on the fly-leaf at the beginning. Frater Joannes Vessaminus [?] de Tiw [. . .] me utitur anno 1568 in Tongr [. . .]. The same hand writes a title below this inscription.

Physical Facet

Material: Paper and vellum. The first and last and the two middle leaves of each gathering are vellum.

Binding: Plain oak boards, uncovered, with embossed leather back (modern). Written upright on the outer cover spine, "Petrus de Herenthals In Psalmos". Inserted on the back fly-leaf is a note from the binder from 1958.

Collation: a16-x16, y4=340
