MS 140: Summa Super Titulis Decretalium [incomplete], by Geoffrey of Trani, 14th century

 Item
Identifier: MS 140

Contents

This manuscript contains a section of a text by 13th century Italian jurist, Geoffrey of Trani. The text found in part in MS 140 is Trani's most famous work, theSumma super titulis decretalium. It is a summary of the Decretals of Gregory IX, an extremely influential text on canon law produced under the direction of Pope Gregory IX in the 1230s, a few decades before the career of Geoffrey of Trani. The copy of Trani's work contained in MS 140 is only a part of the full work, as it begins incompletely, and is missing part of Liber III, and Liber IV and V altogether.

Liber I:begins incompletely on f. 1r, with the words . . est receptus non tam cum electus est ..., and ends on f. 56v with et probatur c.e.t.l. Explicit liber primus Gaufridi.

Liber II: begins on f. 56v with the words explicitis quibusdam judiciorum

Liber III: begins on f. 102r, and ends on f. 140v with ut ursi, leones, pantere, elephantes autem . . .
