Bull of Pope Clement V, Exivi de Paradiso, 14th century

 Part
Identifier: MS 151/ff. 52r-60r

Contents

MS 151/ff. 52r-60r is a 13th-century bull from Pope Clement V. called Exivi de Paradiso, the bull from 1312 was meant to negotiate a compromise between two disputing factions of the Franciscan Order. The dispute was over the matter of apostolic poverty. The earlier bull of Pope Nicholas III (also contained in MS 151) attempted and failed to permanently resolve this dispute, and Clement V's bull also was unable to fully affect a compromise.

The bull begins on f. 52r with the words Clemens episcopus servus servorum dei ad perpetuam rei memoriam. Exivi de paradiso dixi...

The text ends on f. 60r, with the words Data Vienne pridie nonas Mai. Pontificatus nostri. Anno septimo

Writing

These folios are in yet another, different hand than those three of the first 50 folios of MS 151. Though a different hand, it remains a good Italian Gothic script.
