The typescripts are accompanied by a two-page handwritten draft letter, unfinished, unsigned and undated, beginning 'Dear Waddington, I have read your typescripts with interest' and goes on to talk about the study of embryology and genetics being mutually beneficial. Biographical / Historical
Norman Wingate Pirie was a member, along with Waddington, of a discussion group of scientists which gathered in London between 1939 and 1940. The essay appears to be the typescript of the proposal Pirie wrote which the scientist and biochemist Albert Charles Chibnall submitted as a report to the ARC and the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research on the direct use of leaf proteins in human nutrition.
