Two typescript essays titled 'Science as a Goal' and 'Evolutionary Advance and Human Ideals: a follow-on from last month's article on 'Science Ethics Religion', c.1942-1949
Scope and Contents
The 'Science As a Goal' typescript is signed 'C.H. Waddington', and contains handwritten corrections. 'Evolutionary Advance and Human Ideals' is unattributed. The file also contains letters from various individuals spanning the period 1942-1949, mainly concerning Waddington's book Science and Ethics, but also other intellectual matters, including an exchange of letters between Waddington and R.B Braithwaite, who had criticised some of Waddington's ideas. There is also a typescript essay with handwritten corrections titled 'Ethics, Evolution and Thermodynamics' by Stephen Toulmin, signed 'King's College, Cambridge, November 1944'.
